Summer and Distractions

Categories: Pastors Blog

June was awesome!  VBS was incredible.  We had over 130 children registered and in attendance, with more than 70 adults loving on those children.  There are at least 10 families that we will have the blessed opportunity to visit with about their child’s interest in trusting Christ as their Savior and Lord.  Please join me in praying for these families.  Many thanks go to Stacia Runnels and her team of workers for their tireless efforts (many of them worked all day and came to Crossroads at night to work VBS).  Thank You, Thank You!
JUST GOD.  On Monday, June 20th, Jeff Stapleton, our Student Pastor, his wife Sarah along with Kyle and Sheryl Brewer, loaded up 32 students for youth camp @ Pineywoods near Groveton, TX.  Their theme for the week is ABIDE.  As Jeff gave the kids their marching orders before their departure, he opened a small empty box and asked them to place their cell phones inside, most of the students reached into their pockets and pulled out their phones and placed them in the little black case.  These phones have one ring for a text, another for a Facebook update, another for a tweet from Twitter.  Distraction, distraction, distraction.  In the name of technology our smart phones, convenience, and connectivity are teaching our children to live very distracted lives. How often do we see our children with just a Bible, just a journal, with JUST GOD?  They generally have a phone, or iPod, nearby connected to the internet feeding them constant information about the excitement or boredom of their friends lives.  Rarely is it JUST GOD.  I am praying for our students to learn to consistently find themselves in the presence of JUST GOD, to hear just what He has to say to them.
What about you?  How much time do you spend disconnected from status updates, twitter feeds, text messages and FOX News to hear from JUST GOD?  All of this connectivity is just another distraction from the One who desires to speak to us if we just sit still to listen to JUST GOD.  Maybe today is a good day for you to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10). Remember that in the end it is JUST GOD who is the Author of your Life, the Finisher of your Faith, and the Sovereign One over your days.
Spend some time with JUST GOD today and every day.
Love you,
David
