Not a Fan

Categories: Pastors Blog

We have all read the stories.  A crazy fan breaks into a star’s mansion estate in the Hollywood hills.  The crazed   fanatic is obsessed with the famous actor/actress, singer, rock star, athlete, etc.  For years the  certifiably insane has gathered information through gossip magazines, watched and watched their favorite scenes from their favorite  actor’s/actress’ movie or TV show.  Maybe they laid on the floor of their bedroom while they listened to their favorite song on repeat.  They just know so much about the person they feel like they “know” the person.  And they are convinced if the object of their desire just had the chance to meet them they just know that they would be bosom buddies, friends for life, or better yet long lost lovers.  You know how the story goes, the weirdo breaks in, stalks, or just generally “oogs” out the neighborhood and gets ticketed or arrested, completely unaware of what all the fuss is about.  This person is carried along by the delusion that knowing information is the same as knowing the person.  As if the vital statistics and the rags to riches story of the famous is all that there is to know about them.  The truth is there is more to knowing a person than what you can find out from their driver’s license.  That information is not even always true. (My DL says that I am 5’10”.  Why?  Because that is what I told them.  One can always dream.)

To be a follower of Jesus Christ is not to be one who simply knows some casual information about Him, but one who is seeking to intimately know Him daily.  Look at these three words:

CREATOR                                    SAVIOR                                    SOVEREIGN

What do these three words mean to you?

The follower of Jesus knows Him as Creator.  Speaking of Jesus Paul says,

“For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones    or powers or rulers or authorities all things were created by Him and for Him.”            Col. 1:16

The follower knows Jesus as Savior.  The Bible also says,

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  1 Timothy 1:15

The follower knows that Jesus is Creator, Savior, and that He is Sovereign or Lord.

He is Lord of lords and King of kings.  Revelation 17:14

These are not a simple series of factoids about an historical figure.  They are the heart of a relationship, a heart that is beating out the rhythm of life within those who pursue Him.  Know Him today.  Know the living relationship that will change your every waking moment.  Make the choice today and declare,

“I am not a fan.”

Your Fellow Follower,

David
