Faith at Home

These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

Train up a child in the way they should go and when they grow old they will not depart from it. (Prov. 22:6)

The body of Christ is healthiest when the families which make up the local church are healthy.  We cannot nail down all the reasons why, but it is evident in shifting cultural values and responses to specific survey questions that with each passing generation fewer and fewer people identify themselves as Christian.  Certainly this undeniable truth impacts local churches.  Small churches get smaller. Yes, larger churches grow, but how?  Is the growth authentic and is the size of a local church ever a true indicator of how healthy that local church is?  Maybe the best measuring stick for local church ministry is not what is happening now, but what will happen in the lives of her young people as they become young adults, marry, and start families of their own.  Will they continue to serve the purpose of God through His church?  Will they identify with a personal relationship with God at all?  Should this be a component to help us evaluate ministry here at Crossroads?

In an effort to increase our ability to create faith legacies that will bless the church until Christ returns we are beginning a new ministry initiative this month called FAITH [at] HOME.  This is not an event.  It is not something else to add to your calendar.  It will not even require you to leave your home.  It will be an infusion into our DNA as a church family.  It will create a culture for developing intentionally Christ centered homes.  FAITH [at] HOME has a threefold purpose:

  1. Strengthening Marriages
  2. Winning our children to Christ
  3. Launching our young people into adulthood with mature faith

In the days you will be hearing both Jeff Stapleton and me introduce to you the biblical precepts of this dynamic family ministry.  We will launch the first leg of FAITH [at] HOME on Sunday, August 25, 2013 as our families and students embark on a new school year.  I am as excited about this as anything we have ever done here at Crossroads.  You will be too.
