From Your Pastor’s Heart – So We Speak

“We’ve got to make sure we are on the RIGHT side of the ‘but’!”
Richard Taylor at Crossroads Baptist Church, January 31, 2016.

The “but” that Bro. Richard spoke of was the canceling conjunction in Romans 6:23 (and in other verses); “The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The canceling property of that conjunction is just a mere shadow of the canceling power of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. The power of sin and death has been defeated through Christ’s obedient death and victorious resurrection. This is the Good News of the Easter season and for every other moment, for that matter. In my daily Bible reading I have been plowing through Leviticus, it is some tough sledding for sure. Sometimes it reads like the assembly instructions of a child’s toy that just tumbled out of the box in a thousand pieces. Doves, bulls, goats, sheep, and a turtledove for good measure are among the required items necessary to sacrifice in order to maintain fellowship with God. Blood sprinkled over here, blood spilled over there, it is a bloody mess! As I am reading through Leviticus, I feeling this overwhelming sense that I am not sure I could keep up with it all. Read it for yourself, its more than you think. As I have read I have thought, “Why do I have to read this?” Yet every time that I finish a section I am more grateful for God’s grace expressed in the once for all sacrifice of His Son, Jesus.

This is the Good News of Easter (March 27). It is the best news that I hear every day amidst the noise of this election cycle, global terrorism, and a foundering economy. It is the best news that I have ever heard. Even the in the realm of the best words ever, like when Celina said “I do!” or when the doctor said, “It’s a girl!” and “It’s a boy!”. I never grow weary of hearing, “Christ has come into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst.” (1 Tim. 1:15) I am now more aware than ever that there is more to this good news than I knew at first. Not only is it the best news I’ve ever heard, it’s the best news the world has ever heard!

And I get to share it. I get to be the bearer of the greatest news the world has ever known. So do you! SO WE SPEAK!!! Let us not grow weary of doing the good work of sharing the good news.
